Marc Chagall Exhibition – An overwhelming success

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this June for our Marc Chagall Master of Print exhibition. We’re incredibly proud and grateful that the whole show was a great success, and so many of you were able to take home such beautiful Chagall etchings and lithographs.

It was a real pleasure meeting and getting to know our Norfolk community. Something that was brought up on a number of occasions was how shocked and surprised you were that a little gallery in Coltishall was able to display original works by Chagall.  Making art accessible to everyone has always been a mission of ours, and using our connections to the art world, we hope to continue to surprise you all and bring incredible artwork to Norfolk.

We learnt so much from you, our visitors, about Chagall’s collections, life and career. Quite often we would discover that we only knew the tip of the iceberg when it came to a few of our history and knowledge materials. To be able to learn from our our guests was incredibly enriching, and we hope to continue learning from each other.

Hosting Coltishall Primary School was also a particular highlight of our exhibition. Making art accessible to everyone, especially children is one of our core values as a gallery. Spending a morning with a class of observant and enthusiastic young visitors was a real pleasure.

The Marc Chagall exhibition was the third chapter in a series of master printers that Capital Culture Gallery has brought to Norfolk. In 2018, it was John Tenniel’s whimsical and nostalgic original wood engravings for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871). Then in 2019, it was the famous limited-edition prints by Henri Matisse. This June, an exclusive selection of Chagall’s original limited-edition prints will be displayed at the Coltishall Gallery.
